The Korean War is one of the first culminations of the Cold War, a proxy war between East and West. On the first side there is the communist-ruled Democratic People's Republic of Korea and behind it the People's Republic of China. On the other hand, the troops of the Republic of Korea are supported by the United Nations - above all by the USA. Both parties mutually conquer almost the entire Korean peninsula. In the end, however, the fighting led the troops back to their starting positions and cemented the division of the country. Almost the entire Korean industry fell victim to the war. The population suffers enormous losses: three million civilians die during the fighting. When the Korean War ended on 27 July 1953 with the signing of a ceasefire agreement, 940,000 soldiers were killed. There is a peace treaty between North and South Korea, not until today. When the North Korean People's Army crossed the 38th parallel on June 25, 1950 and seized the South Korean capital of Seoul within a few days, the Korean Peninsula began a war that was to split the country in two - until today.
