The 3-part documentary series CANADA'S COASTS is set at Canada's Atlantic coast in the east of the country. Parts of it are known as the "German Coast." Part 1 takes us to Newfoundland, which is situated roughly at about the same geographical latitude as Central Europe. Yet the Atlantic Ocean and Arctic influences create a harsh climate with much chillier temperatures. The Labrador Current carries many icebergs. They consist of fresh water that fell to earth as rain many million years ago. Parts 2 and 3 take us further south, to Nova Scotia ("New Scotland," Ep. 2), as wellas to New Brunswick (New Brunswick) and the Bay of Fundy, located between Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. The bay is known around the globe for having the world's highest tidal range. It is caused by the bay's size and shape (part 3). Note: THIS SERIES IS PRESENTED IN ENGLISH, WITHOUT SUBTITLES. There is currently no German version. Coastal towns that can only be reached by boat, "Iceberg Wranglers" who lasso icebergs and the highest density of comedians: Newfoundland has only been a province of Canada since 1949 and has always been somewhat different from the rest of the country. It's an extremely historic region: this is where America was really discovered by Europeans, because Newfoundland is home to the famous Viking settlement founded 500 years before Columbus.
