In the early 1970s, Kreuzberg is a poor working-class district with few leisure opportunities for children and young people. On December 8, 1971, apprentices, students and young workers occupy the vacant former nurses' home of Bethanien Hospital on Mariannenplatz - one of the first squats in West Berlin. The squatters named it Georg-von-Rauch-Haus, after an urban guerrilla who had died shortly before after a shootout with the police. They set it up as a self-managed housing collective. (...) The agitprop film "Kreuzberg gehört uns" (1972) is understood as part of the actions of the Kreuzberg district group for a self-managed children's and students' center.
