In the middle of the tundra, in Russia's far north, herders and reindeer live in a symbiosis that has lasted for many thousands of years. But this unique cultural heritage of Russian Sami reindeer husbandry is threatening to disappear from the map. International commodity companies have long since set their sights on the grazing grounds of the tundra. Sascha, a young mother and member of the newly founded Sámi parliament, fights on the front line for her home village. Director René Harder ("Mr. Pilipenko and his Submarine") shared the lives of the reindeer herders for over a year. Close to the people and in impressive nature shots, he documents the life and struggle for survival of a people in modern times.
