As small as the GDR was as a country, she was so big in sports: Sandra Kaudelka, herself a former competitive athlete and today a filmmaker, has gone in search of the sports stars of that time. It shows from a rare inside view how an authoritarian state flatters people with privileges or - if the expectations are not fulfilled - destroys them without regard to life and health. In a sensitive way, lone fighters portrayed the celebrated athletes of the time, showing how their personal plans had to be corrected after the turnaround, or whether they had surprisingly been fulfilled.
