Michael Nyman - Composer in Progress

Music/Biography, Germany 2010

Michael Nyman is now one of the great composers of our time and is particularly impressive for his multifaceted approach. His repertoire includes operas, songs, orchestral works and, of course, film scores, including the soundtrack to Jane Campion's film "The Piano," which made him world famous. His biography is characterized by fractures and artistic originality. Michael Nyman is an extremely versatile artist who creates on many levels simultaneously and is constantly on the lookout for new challenges. In Silvia Beck's impressive film, Nyman is portrayed as the headstrong, restlessly creative man behind this fascinating music. The film accompanies him at individual stages of his life - in his personal search for traces in Poland, in his second adopted country Mexico and at one of the most important performances of his musical career: the concert at the English BBC Proms, where he presented a world premiere with "The Musicologist Scores" in 2009.
