The German North Sea coastline seen from a bird’s eye perspective brings a hidden treasure into the limelight: Overwhelming aerial photography from the world heritage site of the Wadden Sea, its islands, the holms – and the lands behind the dike. Filmmakers Peter Bardehle, Silke Schranz, Christian Wüstenberg and aerial cinematographer Klaus Stuhl joined forces to show in this impressive documentary that the Wadden Sea is perfectly entitled to be part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites – just as the Grand Canyon, the Serengeti or the Galápagos Islands. For the aerial film journey a helicopter for the first time in Germany took off with a Cineflex camera system – arguably the best helicopter camera in the world. THE NORTH SEA FROM ABOVE drew an audience of more than 220.000 to cinemas in Germany alone – and ranked second most successful Arthouse documentary in 2012 as well as performed very well in video sales and TV broadcasts.
