"Ich geh' durch meine Stadt..." (I'm going through my city...), sings a well-dressed pop singer, expressing her love for Berlin and fervently praising the new metropolis of Berlin East. As a decidedly jaunty, often hymn-like revue, the film tells of the "growth and development of our new capital city". To cheerful music, the camera revels in high-rise views, shows squares that, thanks to their fountains, benches and green spaces, are supposed to make you forget you're in a big city, and visitors from all over the world in top hotels. A decidedly cheerful and at the same time telling insight into the brave, new GDR world. The credits proudly proclaim: "A film by VEB DEFA-Studios für Kurzfilme, recipient of the Order of the Banner of Labour, artistic working group PROFIL, produced on behalf of the Magistrate of Greater Berlin."
